Strawberry Banana Gelato

Ever since I whipped up the super simple and absolutely delicious Mango Banana gelato, I have been meaning to try making gelato with a variety of different combinations of fruits.

I was indecisive as to the fruits I wanted to use in my next gelato experiment. But finally got down to it last month and created this super yummy dessert - Strawberry Banana Gelato!

Making gelato is very simple. It is just frozen fruits, yogurt and sugar if you like. I skipped any additional sweetener as my fruits were already sweet.

I love strawberries. They are succulent, tasty and pretty! The markets are full of strawberries these days. So, when I picked up a box of these beauties, I got right down into chopping and freezing a few to make my gelato!

Oh, the colour they impart to the gelato is gorgeous! I had to almost tie my hands up to stop myself from licking the gelato mixture that I just blended, and which I was yet to shove into the freezer.

Well, well, well... I bet you will have to do the same. Try it and tell me you didn't! :P

Mango Banana Yogurt Gelato

I seem to be resorting to a new style of posting on Nan's Yum-yums! Call it convenience or time-crunch or just being impromptu. This is my second post in a row which I had not planned on posting here, and had not spent time on styling and taking elaborate pictures. All the pictures are taken from my basic camera mobile! The post just happened on the go and like the last impromptu post, this one simply had to be shared with you all.... so here I am, with my not-so-planned-(or-not-at-all-planned) post on a super simple, delicious and absolutely healthy dessert! :)

On a foodie group that I am a part of, I saw Amrita's post on a very interesting recipe for making gelato at home. The simplicity of the recipe appealed to me instantly. It is Donna Hay's recipe and a definite keeper!

I have never made ice cream at home, though have been planning to do so for months! The usage of heavy cream and the process of repeated freezing-blending-freezing process in most ice cream recipe was always a turn off for me and I somehow kept away from experimenting.

Someday, I will make my own ice cream, but for now I am jumping with joy on the discovery of this simple recipe to make Gelato, which is the Italian's version of ice cream! Gelato is slightly less dense than ice cream and if frozen for longer, the texture becomes crystallised. It's fun eating it both ways :)

Making this gelato involves absolutely no elaborate process and ingredients. Ingredients? Oh, the title of the post has it all!!

That is right - Mango, Banana and Yogurt! That. Is. It!!

Wow...Is that cool or what? My first post that has all the ingredients in its title itself! :D This yummilicious dessert gets made with just these three ingredients. No additional sweeteners, no artificial flavouring, no thickening agents.... none of those!

So, I decided to post this here, after the husband (who hates mangoes!) asked for a second helping!! He actually asked to make this often!! Yooo... hooo!!

Apple & Dates Smoothie

Fruits as such is something am not too fond of, but juices, milk shakes, smoothies... oh yes, love them :) Here is a very simple recipe of pure goodness in the form of Apple & Dates Smoothie :) Increase or decrease the quantity of milk based on your preference of the thickness of the smoothie. I liked mine thick and grainy!

Crunchy Choconilla Sundae!

I scream... you scream... we all scream... for Ice Cream! :) :)

Here is a simple way to create your own exotic Sundae, with everyday ingredients from your deep freezer and pantry :)

Well, well... again, who doesn't love Ice Creams?!! We are no exceptions :) Recently, we were introduced to Swenson's Ice cream parlors, and boy, were we glad or what?! The array of ice creams on their menu leaves you drooling and on our first visit there, it was hard to pick one out of the many! However, soon after our orders came in, it was not hard for us to decide what we would like to have on our next visit here... the Nutty Crispy Tower! Every spoonful makes you go 'Mmmmm....' as the crunch of almonds and praline compliment the creamy scoops of the Macadamia and Mocha Almond Fudge ice creams. Oh yum!!!!

Last week, we were in a mood to indulge in this royal dessert once again, and this time hubby put on the Chef's hat and suggested we try making (rather assembling...) it at home with simple, everyday ingredients. He worked his magic and recreated his version of this sundae, and ah... was it yum! :) Why cant everyday be a Sundae?! :)

Malai Kulfi

Most of my cooking experiments have been either main course dishes or sides. Desserts have not been my strong point. Lately however, an urge to venture into desserts has built up and last few days have witnessed me collecting dessert recipes from here and there.

And when we are talking dessert, who better to reach out to, than my aunt Sandhya!? Since my childhood days, her love, interest and patience towards cooking has always inspired me and I believe to an extent has also rubbed on to me. We share the passion to try out varieties of dishes and today she is my one-stop-shop for interesting exotic recipes and useful tips on cooking.

This simple to prepare, yet perfect tasting kulfi is one of her specialties. I enthusiastically tried it out a few days back and it was set and ready perfectly on time for my ma-in-law's birthday! To my greatest delight, she was absolutely delighted with the treat and savored the yummy kulfis heartily :)
