Mutter Upitu

Suji Rava - 1 1/2 cups
Tomato - 1 medium (finely chopped) 
Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Urid Dal - 1 tsp
Channa Dal - 1 tsp
Green Chilly - 1 (finely chopped)
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Curry Leaves


  • Heat oil in a pan an add channa dal and urid dal. Let them turn light brown and then add in mustard and cumin seeds.
  • Once they splatter, add in the onions, green chilly and curry leaves. Let the onions turn golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder and let it cook for a while. Add water and bring to a boil.
  • Once water starts boiling, reduce the flame and add in the suji rava while stiring continuously. (Stirring helps avoid lumps in the upma)
  • Add few drops of oil and let it cook for a minute. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot!
