Tumbly! ( Idly in a tumbler! )

 A mini make-over to the regular Idlies! :)

Urid Dal - 1 cup
Idly Rice - 4 cups
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Ajwain - 1/2 tsp
Baking powder - a small pinch
Carrots - 1/2 cup (grated)
Salt - 1 tsp

  • Combine together the urid dal and idly rice and soak in water for 4-5 hours. 
  • Blend them together in a mixer into a fine dough. 
  • Add salt to the dough, stir very well and keep it for 6-7 hours for fermenting.
  • Add in the turmeric powder, baking powder, ajwain, grated carrots and mix well again.
  • Take tiny tumblers and grease the insides of them with oil.
  • Pour the batter in each tumbler up to a three-quarter of its capacity.
  • Decorate the top with a few grated carrot shreds and a little ajwain.
  • Place in the cooker and let it cook on medium flame for ten minutes. 
  • Remove it from the cooker. Using a slightly wet knife, carefully remove the cooked Tumblies from the tumblers and enjoy them hot! :)
